Marek Gawliński
Prof. Marek Gawliński
Prof. Marek Gawliński obtained his doctorate and habilitation in the field of sealing technology for machines and devices. He is the author of over 140 scientific and technical publications in journals and conference materials, about 250 reports and expert opinions for the domestic and foreign industry, author/co-author of 9 patents and several implementations of seals for production. His interests focused on topics such as seals and sealing technology, tribology in seals, machine design methodology and failure analysis of machines and devices. As a lecturer at the Wrocław University of Technology, he gave original lectures on the basics of machine construction in Polish and English, on failure analysis of machines and devices and on mechanical engineering at the Faculty of Chemistry, he also conducted many courses on sealing technology, including a course for the technical staff of PKN Orlen.
Prof. Gawliński and his colleagues created Lab. Sealing Techniques and Industrial Fittings, was the author/co-author of several research stands and led, several years ago, to the approval of the Office of Technical Inspection for issuing certificates for resting sealing materials. Many of his graduates work in major companies producing seals in the country, diploma theses carried out under his supervision won awards and distinctions at National Competitions for the best master's theses in mechanics organized by the Main Board of SIMP. He also conducted a diploma thesis commissioned by TROSTEL/USA concerning front seals used in dishwashers by Whirlpool.
Prof. Gawliński has cooperated with many seal manufacturers in Poland and abroad, including Inco-Wrocław, Gambit-Lubawka, Bruss Dichtungstechnik GmbH, Germany, Chicago Rawhide Industries (CRI), USA, he has implemented two projects commissioned by the Texas Institute of Science. During almost 16 years of cooperation with Bruss, he dealt with virtually all types of elastomeric seals for the automotive industry, he also intensively cooperated with CRI, conducting research on reducing the friction resistance of crankshaft lip seals in internal combustion engines. He included the results of these tests in the monograph "Lokalne warunki styku a opory tarcia elastomerowych wargowych pierścieni uszczelniających". He also specialized in sealing the idlers of conveyor belts working in opencast mines, he used seals with magnetic liquid which allowed to significantly reduce the rolling resistance of the roller, he modernized the construction of seals used by A.Kuepper company. He is the author of the chapter on seals with magnetic liquid in the Encyclopedia of Tribology published by the Springer in the US.
Prof. Gawliński promoted two doctors, supervised 4 dissertations on seals and sealing techniques, reviewed five doctoral dissertations, and co-organized cyclical international conferences on seals. He has successfully cooperated with various universities and research and implementation companies, such as the State University in Sumy, Ukraine (Prof. Marcinkowski), GeorgiaTech, Atlanta, USA (Prof. Salant), Muenster University of Applied Sciences, Germany (Prof. Riedl) or from Ferrohidrodinamikoj, Ukraine (Dr. Radionov).
